Post-Jam Update (v1.1)


New Features

  • Added a score system
    • Rack up combos by getting kills before having to merge
    • High scores (should) save locally
  • You can now continue playing after you have died for a score penalty. The score penalty scales up the more you die.
  • Added settings for volume and fullscreen
  • Added a meter to show when the next wave is spawning. It also doubles as a boss health meter.

Changes

  • Some sound effects have been changed
  • Added additional visual and sound effects to player, enemy, and boss spawning
  • Boss patterns have been changed
  • Boss mechanics have been changed
    • Boss no longer sets the player energy to 0 on hit; instead the boss has i-frames on hit
    • Boss health has been increased to compensate
  • The player now gets hurt in merged form if you overload the energy bar the whole way. This was to discourage camping.
  • UI has been tweaked overall to be a bit more colorful
  • Enemies no longer collide with each other
  • Amount of enemies spawned per wave has been tweaked

Stray Thoughts

I took most of the feedback received from jam comments into consideration when updating the game. I honestly never expected to place 99th in the jam (I was expecting around 500-1000). Despite being my best placement I do feel like the original game has some pretty deep flaws such as camping and the boss being a bit too disconnected from the mechanic. I hope these changes help rectify that.
